Anime to jest ekranizacją mangi autorstwa Kazukiego Takahashiego. Powstało ono w 2000 roku i liczy sobie, bagatela, 244 odcinki (jak dla mnie o wiele za dużo). Wersja emitowana w polsce została oczywiście ocenzurowana (zmieniono imiona bohaterów i wycięto niektóre sceny które 4kids Entertainment uznało za zbyt "brutalne").
Anime dzieje sie w świecie podobnym do naszego. W świecie tym prawie wszyscy grają w gre karcianą zwaną Duel Monsters. Polega ona na walkach hologramowych potworów, przedstawionych na kartach. W gre tą gra główny bohater, nastolatek Yugi Mutou. Dostał on od swojego dziadka układankę zwaną "Milenijnym Pasjansem". Po ułożeniu jej, okazuje się, że zaklęty w niej jest duch faraona o imieniu Yami Yugi (w dalszej części recenzji będe mówił po prostu Yami). Jest on znacznie wyższy i pewniejszy siebie od Yugiego. Gdy Yugi założy na szyję Pasjans Milenijny, Yami może przejąć nad nim władzę. Razem stanowią trudną do pokonania drużynę. Yugi zdobywa nowych przyjaciół, staje się bardziej lubiany i popularniejszy. Pewnego dnia do sklepu z kartami jego dziadka wstepuję Seto Kaiba, właściciel wielkiej koropracji i gracz Duel Monsters. Zabiera on ze sklepu potężną kartę: Niebieskookiego Białego Smoka, ulubioną kartę dziadka Yugiego. Chłopak decyduje, że odbierze Kaibie to co ukradł. Niestety okazuje się, że Kaiba posiada wszystkie cztery karty Niebieskookiego Białego Smoka. Yami i Yugi toczą z nim długą i trudną walkę. Wygrywają dzięki Exodii, potężnemu potworowi, stworzonemu z pięciu kart. Nie odzyskują oni jednak karty, ponieważ Kaiba niszczy ją pod koniec walki. To nie koniec problemów Yugiego. Twórca Duel Monsters, Maxymillion Pegasus, mający chrapkę na Milenijny Pasjans, porywa w tajemniczy sposób duszę dziadka Yugiego. Tym samym prowokuje on Yugiego do uczestniczenia w turnieju Duel Monsters, który odbywa się na wyspie należącej do Pegasusa.
Anime jest dość zabawne, ale raczej dla 10-latka. Postacie są dość ciekawe, jest ich dużo. Ciekawe są też projekty potworów. Jest ich dużo, są ładnie narysowane. Fajnie zrobiony został też system walki, gra ma wyraźne i jasno określone reguły. Jednak walki są według mnie, największym minusem tej produkcji. Są często bardzo długie (dwa odcinki to standard) i strasznie schematyczne i przewidywalne. Standardowy wygląda tak: walka się zaczyna, toczy sie normalnie, aż jeden bohater pokazuje asa w rękawie ("teraz pokaże na co mnie stać!), po czym następuje odparcie ataku (" myślisz że tak łatwo ze mną wygrasz!?"). W końcu jeden bohater wykańcza drugiego i koniec. Akurat walki mi się nie podobały).
Od strony technicznej anime prezentuje się całkiem nieźle. Kreska Takahashiego jest dość charakterystyczna i ładna. Muzyka jest,ale raczej nie zwraca się na nią uwagi. Bogu dzięki że w openingu nie ma śpiewu, bo jak se przypomnę polskie wersje openingów z Pokemonów to mi się rzygać zachciewa. Niestety nie zrezygnowano z polskiego dubbingu (a jaki on jest to każdy wie).
Ogólnie anime spodoba się raczej młodszym widzom, chociaż starsi też mogą pooglądać na odprężenie. Polecam.
